How to Make Recycling Fun

Probably one of the reasons why some people are not that interested in recycling is because they think it is a chore. And with already so many chores at home, they wouldn't want to welcome any new addition to their list of things to do.

However, it does not need to be this way. Significance of Recycling should not be viewed as a tedious chore but more of a fun and exciting hobby that you will enjoy. More importantly, it is a worthwhile activity, which greatly helps the environment.

To make recycling fun for you, your family and friends, here are some fun recycling ideas to consider.

1. Do recycling art projects. This is a good way to put your artistry and creativity into good use. Make fabulous and colorful wrapping paper from old calendars and magazines. You can also use these magazines to create paper beads that you can use to make accessories. Paper twirling is another fun artistic project that you can do. By twirling little strips of paper into whatever design you like, you can have beautiful embellishments for your scrapbook, greeting cards or gift tags.

2. Make little games out of recycling chores. Recycling tasks like organizing and sorting items in the recycling bins can be boring sometimes but not if you add a little twist into it. Make it a contest wherein the whole family will be divided into teams, the team who is most organized and has the most items wins a prize. Make sure the prize is nice enough to motivate the family.

3. Have an Amazing Race-like newspaper drive with your neighbors or friends. Turn an ordinary newspaper drive into an exciting reality show-like competition to get neighbors and friends interested into participating. You don't even need to come up with a prize here because just the thrill of the game is enough to get them motivated to join.

4. Give incentives to family members who do their recycling job very well. Whether it's a weekend pizza treat or a big movie night for the whole family, they will surely appreciate that their efforts are well compensated. After they get used to the routine and they instill in themselves the huge significance of recycling, these incentives will not be necessary anymore.

5. Have a garage sale for all those used items that you do not want to use anymore. This is not only a fun way to do your part in the reusing/recycling bit but you are also earning some money. Now, if you are feeling extra generous, the better option is to donate these things to those people who are less fortunate.

6. Make recycling fun with designer recycling bins that are colorful and made with beautiful design to get you into the mood to recycle.

7. Dare your friends to be smart shoppers and see who the smartest shopper of all is. Buying things that have less packaging, preferring reusable items over disposable ones and buying recycled products are just some of the signs of a smart shopper. Take this to a higher level and think of other possible ways how you can be smarter and more earth friendly with your shopping. It's going to be a lot more fun because you are doing this with your friends.
